Finding the right crosshair in CS:GO

Crosshairs in CS:GO

The crosshair in Counter Strike is probably the thing you pay the most attention to in the game. However – as you get better to the game, your eyes start to wander elsewhere as your mechanical skill increases. Take a look at this video of n0thing playing with eye tracking.

He is obviously paying close attention to the crosshair while fighting, but it is also clear that his eyes are focusing on a lot of other aspects of the game while not fighting.
So the crosshair is of course important and is at the same time a very personal part of the game. Should you try and change it up? If so – why should you? And do you copy the pros or find your own pro csgo crosshair?

Why would you change your cs:go crosshair?

There is a lot of reasons to why you would change up you csgo crosshair. It could be due to change of resolution, poor performance or simply because you have seen your favorite player on Twitch. Sometimes changing crosshair to something drastically different can also be a mental reset. Now you have the new crosshair that makes the game feel slightly different, and your confidence rises back up – you are now good to go! Either way you should realize that it (more often than not) takes some time to get used to a new crosshair – not as much as with changing resolution, but it still requires some getting use to. You should also be aware that some sensitive pixel smokes which you use your old crosshair to line up, you might struggle with lining up with the old crosshair.

Remember the resolution

So, you’ve found the perfect looking crosshair from your favorite player, and you try to implement it in your own game, BUT – it looks different? Well that could very well simply be because he plays on a different resolution than you. So bear in mind that every crosshair looks different on other resolutions than initially displayed on Twitch.tv or here on the site. Usually the crosshair gets smaller on higher resolutions, and when playing 4:3 stretched the resolution becomes even bigger than it os on 16:9 or 16:10.

Common commands

There are a lot of command to play around with, when changing your crosshair. The following are the most used, and the command will suggest these as soon as you start typing something similar. Therefor it is not necessary to memorize them completely, but just remember them to some degree.

cl_crosshairstyle

cl_crosshairsize

cl_crosshaircolor (red, green, yellow, black, white, light blue, blue)

cl_crosshairthickness

cl_crosshairgap

cl_crosshair_drawoutline (0/1 – on/off)

cl_crosshairalpha (0-255)

You should more or less be able to style your crosshair as your likings, with just these commands. It’s a good idea to play around with the commands, and as you type the commands in console, it will tell you your current setting value, and then it’s just up to you to change the value up or down. You can of course copy the pro’s and see if it works for you. Maybe you can tweak the crosshair somewhat for your liking afterwards.

So to conclude – find out what works for you. Use the pro’s settings for inspiration when finding the new csgo crosshair, and be aware of the different resolutions you test them on!
